Most people think of cosmetic dentistry as simply whitening teeth and fixing gaps between teeth. While those are important aspects of cosmetic dentistry, it’s much more than that! Cosmetic dentistry is the treatment of cosmetic issues in the mouth and face to improve the overall appearance. At Dr. David Newsham DDS, we offer a wide range of cosmetic dentistry services to help our patients achieve the smile they’ve always wanted! Some of the most common treatments include the following:

Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening is one of the most common and affordable cosmetic dentistry procedures available. Over time, teeth can become discolored from smoking, drinking, and eating certain foods and drinks. Staining is natural but can be reversed with professional teeth whitening treatments. Professional tooth whitening uses a higher concentration of ingredients than over-the-counter products to deliver faster and more dramatic results. The ingredients in your dentist’s office are stronger than those available at drug stores, which means fewer visits are needed to achieve your desired level of whiteness.

Porcelain Veneers

Veneers are thin shells of ceramic material which are placed over the front of teeth to hide flaws and blemishes. Each veneer is custom-made to blend in seamlessly with a patient’s surrounding teeth, regardless of their color or size. Patients may benefit from veneers if they feel self-conscious about the color of their teeth, if they have gaps between teeth, or if they suffer from minor misalignments.

Dental Bonding

The dentist can give you dental bonding in as little as one visit to our office, depending on the number of teeth you need to be bonded. Using composite resin that matches the natural color of your teeth, the dentist can bond the restoration to your tooth. Since it doesn’t require any preparation of the tooth before application, no drilling is necessary. Composite materials are so versatile that they can even be applied to teeth that have had root canal treatment!

Gum Reshaping

If your dentist has told you that you need gum reshaping, it’s usually because your gums are uneven or too prominent for your teeth. To reshape them, your dentist will gently remove excess gum tissue and contour the underlying bone. This restores a balanced appearance to your smile. In some cases, the gums may be covering part of the tooth roots. If this is the case, your dentist may recommend crown lengthening surgery so that you can receive more of your tooth’s surface coverage from the gums. As an added benefit, this also makes it easier to clean around the roots of the teeth!
